Will Chris McNally be back as Lucas in When Calls the Heart season 12?

Chris McNally has many fans in his role of Lucas Bouchard in When Calls the Heart. However, they are currently concerned that the actor won’t return in season 12.

They also worry that his screen time will be reduced as he now works out of Capital City. However, Team Lucas fans shouldn’t worry too much.

McNally confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that he is returning for season 12 of When Calls the Heart. After the season 11 finale, he wrote, “#hearties thank you for joining us on S11. Looking forward to beginning S12 in a few weeks and seeing what’s next for Hope Valley ❤❤❤.”

Hearties can have a big sigh of relief, as season 12 production started in Vancouver on Monday, July 15.

Showrunner Lindsay Sturman reassures fans

Meanwhile, the When Calls the Heart Showrunner Lindsay Sturman opened up on the Official Hearties Admins podcast. She was asked if Chris McNally would return for the twelfth season and whether he would be around for the full season. Fans are worried that the Governor’s duties would keep him in Capital City.

However, Sturman did confirm that Lucas Bouchard will be back while sharing an interesting bit of WCTH news. She revealed that producers are expanding the Capital City set to do more scenes in season 12, saying:

Absolutely, yes. And we actually expanded our set in Capital City so we can do more with it. Chris is one of our leads and he will absolutely be back and we can’t wait to tell these stories.

Moreover, Lindsay was asked if Lucas has some romance in his future and she did confirm that the character will find “some love” in season 12. Meanwhile, the showrunner added that Lucas faces many challenges in his storyline but that he will become “wiser and stronger.”

This is definitely good news for Hearties, who now know Lucas is returning for season 12 of When Calls the Heart and that his storyline will continue.
