The actor shared that he was initially asked to do only two episodes for the second season. To his surprise, the show’s execs asked him if he could do the whole season when they had dinner together. Then he was asked to stay longer and that’s how he ended up being part of the cast for a couple of years.

He also praised the show for having a strong start. He mentioned that the season 8 finale was the highest-rated episode ever, which was a great feat for a show that’s been around for eight years.

Wagner’s character, Bill Hamilton has evolved greatly since he first came on to the show. He started as a Mountie forensic expert and then became the town’s sheriff. Later on, he moved on as the town’s judge and has now become the town’s patriarch. His character’s evolution allowed him to play different sides of his alter ego.

He teased that this season, his character will beat up a younger guy.

“I win a fight on nighttime television. I love when I win a fight on TV,” the actor said.
