When Calls The Heart News Update: Kevin McCarry Didn’t Know Hearties Loss, Wasn’t Ready For Nathan’s Big Impact

Hallmark Channel When Calls The Heart season 8 will continue the story of the characters we have fallen in love with. Viewers are invested in Elizabeth Thornton’s (Erin Krakow) story. When actor Kevin McGarry joined the Hallmark TV show as Nathan Grant, he had no idea what he was getting himself into. He also discovered Hearties’ devastating loss and his character’s impact on fans.

Casting Nathan Grant

The WCTH star talked to Canada’s Super Channel about joining the show as Nathan Grant in season 6. When he accepted the role on the Hallmark TV show, he had no clue what he was getting himself into. In fact, he wasn’t even aware of the term “Hallmarkies” or “Hearties.” McGarry was aware of the TV show but hadn’t watched it until after he joined the cast. That’s when he decided to learn about the storylines, which had him realize that his new role was a big deal!

Hearties Devastating Loss

When McGarry sat down to watch the Hallmark series, he found out what a big impact Natan would have on the story, as well as on fans. He watched Elizabeth’s love story with Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). The two had an epic five-year romance that led to a tragic and devastating end. The actor said,

“When I discovered the 5-year romance Jack and Elizabeth had — and then the devastating end — I knew I was coming on to something big, and everyone was working extra hard to keep the ship afloat.”

Tricky Situation

Nathan is a mountie on the show and so was Jack. With Nathan gradually developing romantic feelings for Elizabeth, there was the concern that Nathan might be taking Jack’s place. This could cause fans to feel resentful or bitter, which isn’t what show bosses or the actor wanted. It was a tricky situation that could have two very different outcomes. While there was that concern that fans could turn on Nathan, the opposite ended up happening. Viewers warmed up to Nathan’s character.

Elizabeth Thornton’s Story And Fan Reactions

Even though a lot of people will never forget Jack and Elizabeth’s story, his death is forcing the character to move forward. Some are passionately on board with Elizabeth and Nathan becoming a couple. But, there are also some who feel that Elizabeth is meant to be with someone else.

When Calls The Heart season 8, we will find out what happens in Elizabeth’s future. Nathan isn’t the only potential love interest and there is no telling if she will pick Nathan or Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally). We will have to wait for the show to return to find out what the future holds for Elizabeth, Nathan, Lucas, and the other characters.
