In tonight’s WCTH episode, Rosemary was on a mission tonight. She came up with the idea of combining the radio with the news. Most people were giving up on reading genuine newspapers.

Which was why Rosemary thought she could still inform the public if she made a radio program out of it. She just never expected that doing so would be such hard work.

She wanted to inform people as well as entertain them. She couldn’t do that if nothing ever happens in Hope Valley. She was constantly on the lookout for news and that week was really boring.

The most excited thing that happened all week was a new comic book came out. The children were using their last nickel to buy those things up. They were obsessed.

They even took to helping out the shopkeepers before school in return for being paid in comic books. It got so bad that Elizabeth noticed half her class was sneakily reading the book while she was trying to teach civics. She confronted one boy. She asked him what was so great about the comics. And he told her that it was pure escapism.

Sometimes the real world just wasn’t exhilarating as a fake one. Elizabeth didn’t take that to heart, but she was trying to find more ways to capture and maintain her students’ attention.

She took the kids to a nearby park. She tried teaching them about the environment. She gave them the chance to explore the real world to their hearts’ content.

She wanted them to see why keeping parks were so amazing and it helped convince the kids that they should look forward to the new park that the Governor was building.

That is if he ever gets around to it. Governor Lucas Bouchard wanted to build a national park. He rehired Edwin because he thought it was better for Edwin to work for him rather than be against him.

Sure, Edwin jumped ship when it looked like Lucas’s career was over. There were also others that thought Edwin would backstab the man at the first opportunity and still the Governor kept Edwin on. Edwin spots the problems before Lucas does. Edwin tried to get Lucas to change the name of the new park.

The park was going to be named after Lee and Rosemary’s daughter, Goldie. Edwin thought it would be better if they named the park after the Irwin family. The Irwins were the richest people in the area. They would probably donate money if it meant their name was on the park.

Only Lucas shot that idea down. He gave his word to his friends that he name the park after Goldie. Edwin didn’t like it. He had to accept it and once again Edwin found another issue. The area where the park was planned has a problem.

A member of the Cattleman’s Association came forward. Her name is Edie Martell. She said the area was originally planned to be split among the ranchers and the government. It was never meant to be a park. A park would take more land away from the ranchers.

It would force them to find another water source. It would make them, up their prices just to make ends meat and small towns might find it too hard to buy mere groceries soon. Edie basically told the Governor that he has to minimize his idea of a park if he didn’t want to turn his constituents against him.

Her idea of the minimizing was to confine the park to the rocky mountains. It would be more of a view than it would be a park. Maybe it’s a good thing Elizabeth couldn’t tear her students away from comic books.

The kids started doing errands around town in agreement to being paid with comic books. They were so obsessed that Rosemary decided to do her first radio program about them. She was going to talk about the scourge of comic books on small towns. She tried bringing on guests to talk about the downside and they weren’t being cooperative.

The adults didn’t think the comic book craze was a bad thing. The kids were reading more. They were being more active in their community. Rosemary brought Florence on as a counterpoint and she actually read the comic books as well. She read it to put it down, but that’s reading all the same.

The only downside on the comic books was that the kids were now expecting more entertainment for their attention. Its why Elizabeth was finding it so hard to keep their attention on schoolwork. And it was only going to get worse from here.

The Governor later came to a decision to minimize the park. Edwin waited until Lee was out speaking with investors before he introduced Edie to Lucas. Now that Lucas wants to cut back on the park, Lee has had enough. He knew he shouldn’t have trusted Lucas.

He also knew that Edie was cutting into their friendship because he has own agenda. Edwin only cares about himself. He made sure to get between Lucas and Lee because he probably wants to go back to naming the park after the Irwin family.

It didn’t matter anymore to Lee. He got on the next train back to Hope Valley. His wife just finished her first successful radio program and the newly married Mike and Mei Hickam have returned from their honeymoon. The honeymoon was a dud. They lost their luggage, their reservation, and they returned to find their home flooded.

Someone forgot to close the windows. Mike thought it was Mei. Mei thought it was Mike. They both came to the decision that don’t care who’s to blame and they just wanted to start their marriage. Even if it does start with him living with her at her cramped old place.

Also, the new Mountie recruit was doing well on the job. He made one mistake when he spilled coffee on some of the paperwork and other than that he was doing well.

He was great at paperwork. He follows all the guidelines. Nathan still doesn’t know why the kid was at the bottom of his class. He knows there’s some kind of disconnect with the recruit he met and the one that nearly flunked out of the academy. And until he could see why Oliver was struggling, he was still inviting the kid to potlucks at Elizabeth’s house.

THE END!
