WCTH Spoilers – Elizabeth Makes A Choice!

Spoilers for When Calls the Heart (WCTH) Season 10, Episode 11 show Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) debating between her fiancé Lucas (Chris McNally) and Mountie Nathan (Kevin McGarry).

And the pressure intensifies when Lucas’ chance to become more involved in politics comes earlier than anticipated, noted TV Insider.

When Calls The Heart Spoilers: Elizabeth Makes A Shocking Choice, WCTH Creator Explains!

After Governor Bixby Balfour’s (Mark Brandon) opponent exits the governor’s race, Lucas gets his opportunity. But winning would mean a move. And that leaves Elizabeth hesitant to make a commitment to moving while urging Lucas to take his chance.

But then Nathan learns about the situation. And when he asks her what she desires, Elizabeth says she wants Lucas to win. But Elizabeth later tells her pal Rosemary (Pascale Hutton) that she opted for Lucas as a safer choice that would avoid “getting hurt again. I don’t think I was listening to my heart.”

And a cliffhanger at the train station got Hearties anticipating the ending to that love triangle. Elizabeth tells Lucas that she feels his destiny lies in politics. “You are destined for this… but my whole life is here,” she confesses. And Lucas seems to understand, wishing her “all the happiness in the world.”

WCTH Spoilers – A ‘Hero’s Journey’!

But while Hearties debate what could happen next, a new interview explains the reasoning behind that train station cliffhanger. And WCTH show-runner Lindsay Sturman and co-creator Brian Bird explained why Elizabeth and Lucas needed to follow different paths.

Lindsay shared that the writers began knowing the final moments of the episode. And then they added the key elements that would lead to that cliffhanger. Because Elizabeth and Lucas followed different paths, the writers chose to focus on Lucas. And they gave him “this bigger story of a man who thinks big and does big,” said Sturman.

However, while Lucas seems “bound for some greatness,” the WCTH show-runner also revealed that he follows a “hero’s journey.” But in contrast, Elizabeth previously experienced a “big life.” As a result, Elizabeth “chose to leave Hamilton and come to this small town and have the sort of quieter life.”

And as a teacher focused on raising her son, Elizabeth’s and Lucas’ paths separate. But the co-creator of When Calls The Heart, Brian Bird, also believes that the “paths diverging” can lead to more stories. And that should make Hearties cheer!

I am proud of the writers and actors this season. I am grateful the show actually feels like WCTH again. Elizabeth is back to her roots. This is what we’ve been waiting for all along. A lot of great stories this season with the Coulters, Henry, Bill , Nathan & of course Lucas. He will be a great governor. The only thing better this season is to see sparks finally fly with Nathan & Elizabeth. This is how it should have been all along.
