She learned Nathan’s connection to Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), why he kept this a secret, and why he felt so guilty. Elizabeth needed an excuse to run away from Nathan. She loves him so much and knows how much it would hurt to lose him. It reminds her of how much she loved Jack… and how painful it was to lose him.

Love and loss are linked and there is no way to have one without the other. It sounds like Nathan isn’t the only one who gets a second chance. By taking a risk with Nathan, Elizabeth is also giving herself a second chance to experience true love.
