In light of the Hollywood writers’ strike, fans are worried that the action could affect Hallmark’s series and Christmas movies. While most of us support the writers in trying to get a decent wage, the WGA strike could cause chaos in a number of ways. Will the strike affect drama series and movies on the feel-good channel?
Will the writer’s strike hit Hallmark productions?
Currently, many are missing their late-night shows due to the Hollywood writers’ strike. This has made many fans concerned over the fate of Hallmark’s productions. Meanwhile, the channel has yet to announce how many movies will premiere in their Countdown to Christmas programming event. Should we be worried?
Luckily, Hallmark has reportedly already filmed a number of 2023 Christmas movies. However, depending on how long the WGA strike continues, could some festive films be canceled? In recent years, the network has made around 40 new movies of all categories each season. In fact, some of these are aired in the Christmas in July programming event, while others are released in the spring, summer, or fall.
Some movies have already been filmed
Many of Hallmark’s stars have revealed that the network can film a movie in just 15 days. Meanwhile, Hallmark Channel has apparently already made around 35 to 40 percent of its 2023 movies.
This even includes one that fans are waiting for, A Biltmore Christmas, starring Kristoffer Polaha and Bethany Joy Lenz. Moreover, the Kim Matula and Kevin McGarry film, Christmas Goals has also finished production. Others include Winter Castle Royal Romance with Stephen Huszar and Katie Cassidy, and Where Are You Christmas, with Lyndsey Fonseca and Michael Rady.
It seems around 15 to 20 movies are already in the can, meanwhile rumors say Haul Out The Holly 2 has been done, as well as Paris Christmas Waltz. However, Hallmark has made no mention of these festive movies.
Hallmark Mysteries in 2023
In the meantime, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries has ramped up its work on mystery movies and two will premiere in May. One is The Jane Mysteries: Inheritance Lost with Jodie Sweetin. Another is the much-anticipated reunion of Alison Sweeney and Cameron Mathison in Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen movie.
June will see two more mysteries, including Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango with Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp.
Moreover, after Candace Cameron Bure flew the coop, Hallmark is reinventing the popular Aurora Teagarden series with a new prequel. Moreover, Skyler Samuels stars as the younger version of Aurora Teagarden herself. Meanwhile, the third Curious Caterer Mystery movie, Last Suppers, has already been filmed with Nikki DeLoach and Andrew Walker.
While the network has not yet announced how many movies will drop in the 2023 Countdown To Christmas, we probably shouldn’t worry. We are sure to see many festive movies during the holiday programming event.
