American actor, Billy Dee Williams, recently talked about his gender fluidity in an interview. A few weeks prior to the release of “The Rise of Skywalker,” the veteran actor defined himself as gender fluid and one who uses multiple pronouns.
Williams Uses Multiple Pronouns
The 82-year-old actor said, “I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”
The conversation about the topic started when Williams offered “an analysis of cool,” as he commented on the artwork found inside a New York restaurant while noticing the styles of others who were dining.
William’s Other Passions
Before diving into the entertainment business, Williams took up painting classes for a few years. He’s also a clothing designer and had appeared on a photoshoot with Esquire donning an overcoat, which he made himself.
William said, “I never tried to be anything except myself. I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.”
He was also reminded that Donald Glover described Lando Calrissian using pansexual terms when he portrayed the younger version in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018.
“Really? That kid is brilliant —just look at those videos,” William responded.
It’s been a while since the last time Williams appeared in a Star Wars movie. He’ll be returning to the cape-wearing role in the upcoming movie, “The Rise of Skywalker,” the last installment of the Skywalker saga.

His first film was “The Last Angry Man” back in 1959. His career took off when he appeared in the ever famous blockbuster biographical TV movie, “Brian’s Song” in 1971 where he played the role Gale Sayers. His excellent performance earned him an Emmy Award nomination for best actor.
Williams said, “It was a love story, really. Between two guys. Without sex. … It ended up being a kind of breakthrough in terms of racial division.”
He landed a seven-year contract with Mowtown’s “Berry Gordy.” He landed the role of Lando Calrissian in “The Empire Strikes Back” in 1980 and reprised it on “Return of the Jedi” in 1983.
