The original TV show was on between 1984 and 1986, then in syndication from 1987 to 1988. It followed a young foster girl who was caught squatting in an apartment building. However, instead of sending her back into the foster care system, she ended up living with the grouchy owner, Henry Warnimont. Despite a lot of red tape from a social worker, the relationship surprisingly not only survived, but thrived.

Punky Brewster Revival

The TV reboot will air on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock sometime in 2020. As for what to expect, Fry is excited that the series is returning and grown-up Punky will meet a young girl who reminds her a lot of herself. Cherie Johnson will be reprising her role of Cheri, Punky’s best friend. Also, Freddie Prinz, Jr. has been cast as Punky’s ex-husband. Despite the two no longer being together, there is still “lingering chemistry.”

Cherie Johnson Joining Revival

Frye confirmed that Cherie is still going to be Punky’s best friend. So, that is one constant in adult Punky’s complicated life. She also teased that there might be some other returns as well.

“I can tell you that Cherie is still going to be her bestie. I think people are gonna love who [Punky] is, she’s so great and there’s so many wonderful people around her and it’s very exciting and some very big announcements soon to come!”
