If you thought Steven Spielberg‘s “Jurassic World” is the best “Jurassic” there is, you’re in for a treat! Guess what? Universal has reportedly greenlit a script from David Koepp. Who is Koepp, you ask? Well, he’s only the scriptwriter of Steven Spielberg’s original “Jurassic Park” and its 1997 sequel.
What We Know About Universal’s Upcoming Jurassic Movie
We’ve got to let our dinosaurs roam free, even if they leave nothing but destruction in their wake. Since Michael Crichton penned the original Jurassic Park books, humans have learned that there’s a thrill to watching smart people create monsters they can’t control.
This basic idea has been translated into different ways, and they’ve mostly worked. Just two years ago, the third movie in the “Jurassic World” franchise was released, signaling to the constant need for humans to catch a glimpse of these long departed creatures, even if they’re computer animated.
Now, Universal plans to bring back the OG scriptwriter for another wild ride featuring creatures from the Mesozoic era. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio is actually deep in the development of an all-new Jurassic World movie.
As the writer of the original 1993 “Jurassic Park” and its 1997 sequel “Jurassic Park: The Lost World,” we no doubt expect great things from this one. The project has been flying under the radar this whole time, but sources say there are plans for a 2025 release.
At the moment, we understand that no director has been attached to the project, though two dinosaur guys, namely the producer of the “Jurassic World Trilogy” Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are listed as the new movie’s producers. To round off the dinosaur gang, Steven Spielberg will be executive producing via his Amblin Entertainment banner.
We don’t know whether Koepp will be working with a clean slate or if he’s improving on an already adapted storyline, all we know is that we’ve been promised that it will launch “a new Jurassic era.”
Since Crichton’s 1990 book opened up the idea of resurrecting the dinosaurs, six movies have been adapted, apart from other works based around the central idea. It’s safe to say Universal is not letting their golden franchise simmer for even a second.
