Dune, the forthcoming American epic science fiction movie directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve and Eric Roths, dropped its first full-length trailer on Thursday, July 22. Packed with familiar faces, funny lines, action, and best of all, mystery, the trailer prepares fans for what could befall them when the film hits theaters on October 22.
The movie is based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name and will be the first of a two-part adaptation. Denis Villeneuve previously revealed that the first movie will only roughly cover the first part of the book. So, here’s to our dreams making “good stories”.
Dune’s First Trailer Reveals Battle Of A World Fighting To Survive
“My planet Arrakis is so beautiful when the sun is low, rolling over the sands, you can see spice in the air,” Zendaya’s character Chani reveals at the beginning of the trailer. And so brings us to the most important and sought-after commodity in the universe exclusive to the desert planet Arrakis, Spice.
Spice is a drug capable of enhancing human capabilities far above their potential. It extends human life, grants superhuman levels of thought, and makes faster-than-light travel practical. With such a valuable commodity, comes a bitter conflict.
“The outsiders ravage our lands in front of our eyes,” Chani continues, before we see fire raining from the sky. “Their cruelty to my people is all I’ve ever known. What’s to become of our world?”
We hear Chani call Paul (played by Timothée Chalamet), who wakes up from bed. Paul Atreides decides to confide his dreams to Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho, telling him about a girl on Arrakis, “I don’t know what it means,” he admits.

This is followed by the promise to “bring peace to Arrakis” as commanded by the emperor, but war prepares to wage. Paul finally meets Chani and recognizes her as the girl from his dreams. “You have to face your fears,” Chani tells Paul.
“This is an extermination,” Paul says as glorious battle wages, “they’re picking my family off one by one.”

“Let’s fight like demons,” Jason Momoa says before we see flashes of more fight scenes.
“It’s time,” Lady Jessica (played by Rebecca Ferguson) says at the end of the trailer.
At the end, it’s safe to say that the movie would be one hell of a journey, “and only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”
