Timothée Chalamet – To Star In A Musical Fantasy Remake Of The Famous Character In “Charlie And The Chocolate Factory”

Fans have been given a glimpse into the famous candy man in the first version of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and its remake. But the latest take on the classic book by Roald Dahl will take us back to the mysterious and awfully jolly early days of Willy Wonka.

Originally slated for a March 17, 2023 release, the rescheduled release date was announced by the show’s production studio Warner Bros during Tuesday’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

A short reel, packed full with exciting glimpses into the magical and musical world of the Chocolate Factory owner’s early days, played by 26-year-old Timothée Chalamet, has garnered excitement from fans. The upcoming “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” prequel tale will feature Chalamet singing and dancing as the titular character Willy Wonka.

Per a piece by The Hollywood Reporter, the trailer begins with Wonka dramatically asking, “Is everybody ready?” This is followed by several musical scenes.

Other media outlets report scenes of a tap dancing Willy Wonka, as well as peeks at costars Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Olivia Coleman — and, of course, the highly sought-after Golden Ticket.

“It’s not the chocolate that matters,” Wonka reads from a candy wrapper at the end of the reel, according to Deadline. “It’s the people you share it with.”

The “Dune” star was spotted filming the origin story in England back in February, but gave fans the first peek at his character in October 2021.

“The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last … 🏭WONKA🍫,” he wrote in his Instagram caption, quoting Gene Wilder in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.

Willy Wonka, the character created by Roald Dahl in his children’s book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, has been played onscreen by the late Wilder in 1971 classic and Johnny Depp in the 2005 Tim Burton adaptation.

Unrelated to Warner Bros’ “Wonka”, Disney is working on a “series based on the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” with Oscar-winner Taika Waititi.

In July 2021, stars of the original “Willy Wonka” movie musical told PEOPLE they were excited to see the new installment as they celebrated the original film’s 50th anniversary.

“As Julie [Dawn Cole] likes to say, ‘There‘s room for all of us. We can all play well together in the sandbox,’ ” Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie Bucket, said at the time. “And the prequel will shed more light on early Wonka.”

“Wonka” hits theaters Dec. 15, 2023.
