Who’s ready to go back to the wizarding world of Harry Potter? I know I am. After getting a quick glimpse at Hogwarts in ‘Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald,’ I just want to have more.
Well, it won’t be long now as Emmy Award winning director – think ‘Game of Thrones’ – Mark Mylod has been attached to direct several episodes of the show.
‘His Dark Materials’ and ‘Succession’s’ Francesca Gardiner has been named as showrunner for the currently untitled series. Here’s what we know so far.
‘Harry Potter’ Series To ‘Preserve the Integrity’ of the Books More Than the Original Franchise
We may love the Warner Bros adaptation of ‘Harry Potter,’ but those who are fans of the book know that we lost some beloved characters and plotlines so that the movie can be flowing and fast-paced and contained within the time constraints of feature films.
But this won’t be so with a series, where they can allow the drama and the plot to develop over a course of several episodes.
When the announcement was made, JK Rowling, the author of the ‘Harry Potter’ book series praised HBO for their commitment to preserve the integrity of the books. She further revealed that the upcoming adaptation, which is set to be released over the course of a decade, “will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”
Billed as a “faithful adaptation” of one of the most successful franchises, it will reportedly turn all seven books into a separate season.
Per the show’s logline, “The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters ‘Harry Potter’ fans have loved for over twenty-five years. Each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world.”
For those who weren’t happy that Peeves the Poltergeist was written off, or that the redemption arc for Dudley in the final book didn’t happen, or that there is a lack of development for Ginny Weasley’s character, the series will hopefully redeem that.
