The latest news is truly a joy for Potterheads who can’t get enough of the world of Harry Potter. Yes, we had ‘Fantastic Beasts’ and while that was a magical experience, the little glimpse we got of Hogwarts in the ‘Harry Potter’ spinoff franchise definitely had us tasting for more of the world of Potter. For those who are hardcore fans of the book and feel that the movie version changed a lot of important details, well, HBO has promised to right all wrongs with its new series.
Here’s everything we know about the search for the three children who will lead the franchise for a whole new generation of viewers.
Harry Potter – Open Casting Announced In The UK For HBO’s Harry Potter: Are you the Next Harry, Hermione, Or Ron?
Open calls have been put out for children living in the UK or Ireland to apply for the leading roles in ‘Harry Potter.’ For your child to be eligible, they will have to be between 9 to 11 in 2025, and possibly the appropriate height.
It further promises that they’re looking forward to diversifying their casting, adding, “For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”
This means that your child can apply for the role as far as they’re of the appropriate age, regardless of color or background. For the child to be considered, they will have to read a short poem or story (as far it’s not from Harry Potter), as well as introduce themselves in a short video.
“It can be from your favorite book, a poem that you love, a monologue from a play or something you’ve created yourself,” the casting call reads, before further instructing, “Please, nothing from Harry Potter. Please use your own accent.”
Filming is expected to begin in 2025, with ‘Succession’s’ Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod serving as the writer and director respectively.
In 2021, Harry Potter celebrated its 20th anniversary, with leads Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reuniting at the event.
