The most successful author in the world turned out to become the most controversial when she took a hard and fast stance against certain trans ideologies. She believed that trans women are men and trans men are women. The end point of this belief is that trans women should not share the same private spaces with women.
This did not only bring her criticisms from fans and even the press – let’s not talk about that carefully worded Warner Bros statement – but from the stars of Warner Bros’s hit ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.
Is she right, is she wrong, HBO doesn’t care. What they care about is that she puts that creative mind to work to bring the beloved books back onscreen for the benefit of a whole new generation of movie lovers.
HBO Says ‘Harry Potter’ Series Will Benefit From Author’s Involvement
It’s been four years since JK Rowling first made her opinions about trans very clear, and while she’s yet to reel it back, apologize, or even change her views – in fact, some fans say she’s gotten more aggressive through the years – Warner Bros is by no means cutting off that billion dollar franchise surrounding Rowling’s ‘Wizarding World,’ or even Rowling from it.
So in case you’re wondering how involved the creative genius that brought the concept of ‘Harry Potter’ to the world is with the new series, HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed that she’s “very, very involved in the process selecting the writer and the director.”
The only assurance that people who yearn for more representation in movies and TV shows is given is that casting is still very much inclusive, as Bloys revealed that her personal opinions “haven’t affected the casting or hiring of writers or productions staff” for the show. Good thing, right?
JK Rowling Makes “Invaluable” Contributions To the Harry Potter Business
For those in the back, no, JK Rowling is not going to be dropped from a work she created. It’s like asking HBO to stop trying to please George R.R. Martin. I don’t know how that is supposed to work.
According to an insider speaking to Variety, HBO’s parent company – you know who they are – have “been working with J.K. Rowling and in the Harry Potter business for over 20 years” and “her contribution has been invaluable.”
“We are proud to once again tell the story of Harry Potter — the heartwarming books that speak to power of friendship, resolve and acceptance,” the statement continued. “J.K. Rowling has a right to express her personal views. We will remain focused on the development of the new series, which will only benefit from her involvement.”
