Okay, we’re getting somewhere. A major casting rumor may have been thrown out of the window, but it’s all good. There’s some well-needed Superman updates coming soon.
James Gunn – Opens Up About the State Of The Highly Anticipated Superman Movie
You might not believe it, but these little rumors we like to spin about the upcoming Superman movies – sometimes in hopes that it’ll come true – is actually getting to James Gunn.
Yes, it’s going to be hard for fans to get used to not seeing “The Witcher’s” Henry Cavill as Superman, especially after our hopes were raised by announcements he’ll be returning as Superman for one more round. What happened, DC?
The seed of his return was actually sown in Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam”, and a few weeks after the movie aired, it was officially announced that Henry Cavill’s Superman will indeed return. The news clashed with that of Cavill leaving “The Witcher” after playing the show’s main character for several seasons.
But somehow, the idea didn’t quite take off. I blame James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios as co-Ceos.
Anywho, I’m not going to begrudge the next Superman of his glory, but we won’t know who’ll be stepping into the familiar red cape anytime soon.
“My thoughts are no one has been cast as Superman yet,” the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Suicide Squad” filmmaker tweeted, debunking any and every claim that “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi will be the next Superman.
“Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t,” Gunn continued. “We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”
Superman (alterego Clark Kent), was originally invented as a comic book character in the June 1938 debut issue of Action Comics. His backstory revealed that he’s not a human being, but rather an alien from the doomed planet of Kal-El. His weakness is Kryptonite, but apart from that, there’s not much that can hurt him.
In 1948, Kirk Alyn played the first onscreen Superman, and since then, the character has been played by several stars, including George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Nicholas Cage and many others.
