Julie Andrews Reveals Why “It’s Not Possible” For Her To Appear In “Princess Diaries 3”

By Nmesoma Okechukwu on December 13, 2022

It was a happy day for fans of “Princess Diaries” when Disney announced that there are plans to make a third installment.

For many years since 2004’s “Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement”, fans have been speculating every now and then about a possible return to the quaint little country of Genovia.

In fact, before Disney announced that plans for the sequel is underway, Julie Andrews, who played Genovia’s former Queen, dropped some hot tips about sequel plans at a red carpet event.

Whatever happens, I know it’ll be sad for fans of the hit show to step back into the kingdom of Genovia without Julie Andrews playing Mia Thermopolis’ grandmother.

Julie Andrews – On Starring On A Potential “Princess Diaries” Installment

While no one would love to step back into the shoes of former Queen Clarisse Renaldi than Julie Andrews, the star is doubtful that she’ll be called upon to make an appearance in the popular movie’s third installment.

She expressed her doubts about returning during an interview with Access Hollywood, released Tuesday. The actress revealed that she hadn’t heard anything about starring in the potential sequel.

“I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible,” the “Sound of Music” star, 87, said. “It was talked about very shortly after [the second sequel] came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run.”

Andrews also went on to call Anne Hathaway a dear friend during the interview.

Other Times Julie Andrews Have Spoken Up About A “Princess Diaries” Sequel

It’s been over twenty years since the release of “Princess Diaries”, which launched then 18-year-old Anne Hathaway to global fame.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the AFI Life Achievement Award at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, Andrews said: “I don’t know, I think I’m the one — she’s probably still okay for it, but I might just be a little too old a granny for it, I don’t know.”

In the movie, Andrews played the former Queen of Genovia as well as Hathaway’s character’s grandmother. It depends what the story is, and if they can come up with something, that would be wonderful,” the star continued. “But if not, there will be other things.”

Anne Hathaway has also revealed that she’s more than willing to become Mia Thermopolis for another round of “Princess Diaries”.
