Keanu Reeves Withdraws From Leonardo DiCaprio And Martin Scorsese’s Series “Devil In the White City”

Keanu ReevesThe “Matrix” star Keanu Reeves was formerly poised to star in an upcoming series by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. However, Reeves has decided to quietly opt out of their former arrangements.

It’s even more curious because no one knows why he chose to withdraw from the project, yet. But here’s the details to the arrangement in case you want to play detective.

Keanu Reeves – Exits “Devil In The White City” Before Making His Television Debut

We’ve seen Keanu Reeves take on different forms during his very successful acting career, from a main role in “Matrix” and “John Wick” to several cameos in the popular children’s cartoon “Spongebob SquarePants”.

But there is one place we haven’t actually seen Reeves shine through and that is in a seasonal movie made for television. However, this was all about to change with his upcoming role in Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Hulu and Paramount TV series “The Devil in the White City”. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we know that won’t be happening now.

At the moment, like I’ve previously stated, reps for Hulu and Reeves have decided not to comment on the exit. I mean, fans can’t say they didn’t expect this from him. The guy didn’t just become one of the least controversial actors in Hollywood overnight.

In fact, he is so far removed from controversies that his name doesn’t even show up on the listing for Hollywood’s least controversial celebrities.

Prior to his departure, Reeves was set to play Daniel H. Burnham, the legendary architect who was the creative vision behind the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.

Based on a nonfiction book of the same name by Erik Larson, the movie will follow Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern-day serial killer, whose notorious Murder Castle — where he killed many of his victims – was built in the fair’s shadow.

Before he was executed for his crimes in 1896, Holmes confessed to the murder of 27 people, though there are those who believe that the actual number is approaching 200.

“Devil In the White City’s” Long Road To Movie Adaptation

Reeves wasn’t only meant to star in the series, he was also one of the executive producers, alongside Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio.

This isn’t the first time that a Hollywood A-lister has attempted to gain the rights to adapting the book into a movie. In 2003, Tom Cruise first won the rights for the film, even though it later expired the very next year.

In 2010, DiCaprio acquired the rights to make the movie with the intention of playing the serial killer. Fast forward to 2015, and Martin Scorsese joins the project as a director.

Four years later, Hulu revealed that the movie will be released through the company as a limited series, but there hasn’t been any mention of DiCaprio being involved in the movie beyond his role as an executive producer.
