At the moment, we don’t know what subtle changes they’re going to make to the storyline, or if they’re going to be righteous to the original – I doubt, especially seeing how they’ve treated their other remakes, from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty to Aladdin.

In the seconds-long teaser released on Wednesday, we see Ariel living life as a mermaid with her sisters and get a glimpse of the love between her and Eric, which we all know will get her to make a deal with the sea witch, Ursula. Halle Bailey takes the lead role as Ariel, supported by Jonah Hauer-King’s Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula, and Javier Bardem’s King Triton. In addition to these main characters, Jacob Tremblay will voice Flounder and Daveed Diggs will voice the crab Sebastian.

Disney – Announces That Four Original Songs Will Feature in the Upcoming “The Little Mermaid”

In July 2019, Disney announced that Halle Bailey will be taking on the role of Ariel, the little mermaid. The first teaser for the movie dropped on Sept. 2022, leading people to fall in love with Halle’s voice, even though the clip lasted for 5 seconds.

“It was an inspiring and beautiful thing to hear their words of encouragement, telling me, ‘You don’t understand what this is doing for us, for our community, for all the little Black and brown girls who are going to see themselves in you,’” Halle told Variety in an interview.

As for the soundtrack, Lin-Manuel Miranda (famously known for scoring Moana and Encanto) will be working alongside legendary composer Alan Menken. Fun fact: Alan Menken scored the original “The Little Mermaid” cartoon. Together, Menken and Miranda scored four new original songs, though fans are assured that they will not be taking the place of classics like “Kiss the Girl” and “Under the Sea”.
