What China’s Threat Could Mean For Hollywood Movies

What China's Threat Could Mean For Hollywood Movies: New High Budget Movies Could Lose Half A Million DollarsChina is willing to push back on Trump’s new tariffs any which way, and their proposed new move could possibly shake Hollywood’s very foundations.

How serious is China in their bid to ban Hollywood movies and what could that mean for the future of US entertainment?

China Won’t Accept the “Blackmail Nature” of Trump’s Escalated Tariff Threats Against Beijing

If US is going to increase the tariffs on Chinese products entering their borders, then two can play that game, or so China’s government declares.

According to a Chinese journalist with ties to the communist party, there’s a proposal for China to put more tariffs on US agricultural products like soybeans, block all US poultry from entering China and ban the import of US movies into the country.

This is as a result of an escalating war between Trump’s White House and the Chinese communist party. China, like some other countries that received increased tarrifs from the US, implemented retaliatory tariffs on US products as a way to combat the tariffs.

In response, Trump threatened to raise the tariffs on China to 50% if China does not do away with what he sees as the implementation of retaliatory tarrifs.

China, standing its ground, made it clear that they would not be intimidated by the “blackmail” and drew up plans to ban US imports should White House proceed to carry out its threats.

The US threats were “a mistake on top of a mistake, once again exposing the American side’s blackmailing nature,” the Chinese commerce ministry said, before urging the US to resolve their trade issues with the country in a more sensible and respectful manner.

In any case Trump refuses to let China have an equal seat at the table, then China might indeed implement the ban on Hollywood movies. Considering that US movies grossed $585million in 2024 alone, it’s easy to see that several movies will be missing out on this delectable piece of the pie.

Amongst the movies that could lose millions of dollars by not entering the Chinese market are ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ ‘The Accountant 2’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.’

‘Avengers: Endgame’ made $580 million in China alone, just to show you how powerful the Chinese market can be if you ever penetrate it.
