Kevin Costner fans mourned at the news that the actor would exit Yellowstone. But Costner’s follow-up to Yellowstone just made news with its first teaser.
Find out everything to know about the Yellowstone star’s follow-up project. And keep reading to discover the release date and view the first teaser trailer.
Kevin Costner – Teases Yellowstone Follow-Up
The highly anticipated follow-up to Yellowstone from Kevin Costner now has a release date as well as its first teaser. And Warner Bros. teamed up with New Line to reveal that the first two chapters of Horizon: An American Saga will open within a two-month period. The release date is planned for next summer, reported PopCulture.
Costner stars in and directed the follow-up project to Yellowstone. And while his popular series preps to end, the actor has pivoted to focus on his new project. Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 received a release date of June 28, 2024. However, that means that Costner’s film will compete against Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.
And the competition seems just as challenging for Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2. Set for release on Aug. 16, 2024, the second chapter hits theaters just days after Lionsgate’s Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart-starring Borderlands adaptation debuts. And it also coincides with the opening day of 20th Century Studios’ Alien reboot.
Kevin Costner – Explains His New Saga Project
The Yellowstone actor planned his new project to result in four movies. And Costner explained that his plans called for “four different movies” scheduled to release every three months. Because the “different films all connect, you’re watching a saga of these storylines that are happening.”
And a synopsis for the movies reveals that they “explore the lure of the Old West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”
As shown in the trailer, the Yellowstone actor plays a key role in the films that he directed. And for his cast, Costner chose Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, and Jamie Campbell Bower.
However, beyond starring and directing, Costner took a risk in financing the films. And the actor’s recent divorce drama showed that he contributed a minimum of $20 million to the budget. Costner began the project in 1988. And it becomes his fourth feature-length directorial project in the wake of 1990’s Dances With Wolves, 1997’s Post Man, and 2003’s Open Range.
