Fay Brennan’s character has reached her final appearance in the Aussie soap “Neighbours” with her emotional death scene on April 5. The star revealed that amid the challenges of filming “Neighbours” due to COVID-19 rules, it was such a delight for her to go out “Neighbours,” which she called a “happy land.”
Fay, portrayed by Zoe Bertram, has been battling against Huntington’s disease, passes away after developing Pneumonia. The character died peacefully with her family gathered around her for her final moments.
The heartbreaking scene was countered with the heartwarming moment of Fay touching Nicollete’s (Charlotte Chimes) baby bump, feeling her unborn grandchild.
“Out at Neighbours, it’s just like happy land”
The actress had caught up with the Digital Spy and has openly discussed her emotional exit.
When asked about how she encapsulates her time playing Fay, the actress revealed it has been sheer joy and bliss, that it was lovely to have ‘that’ family in Neighbours. Fay has bereaved her family now, including Aaron (Matt Wilson) and Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly), and in the past, we had Mark (Scott McGregor) and Tyler (Travis Burns).
“The world is in such a strange place and it’s unsettling, but out at Neighbours, it’s just like happy land. Even though the COVID rules were very strict, it’s such a delight to go out there because it’s a family and it’s been going for so long. It’s just like a little slice of heaven in the world – it truly is. It’s an absolute joy to be there and I’m sad that it’s come to an end, but I can keep watching and feel like I’m still a part of it,” the star added.
Neighbours – Huntington’s Disease Awareness
The star also revealed that she did some research on the computer, and the producers have sent her specific websites to understand Huntington’s disease and to portray it effectively because it hasn’t been portrayed much on television at all.
Zoe hopes that her story has helped to raise awareness of this uncommon disease to help the ones in need. “If there’s awareness and attention brought to it, hopefully, there can be more funding and more people looking into a cure,” the actress explained.

Meanwhile, Matt Wilson, portraying Fay’s son Aaron, has also commented about the challenges of filming her mother’s death storyline. The actor said it wasn’t a fun storyline but they received a lot of praise and thank-you messages from people experiencing the disease in real life. Matt revealed he won’t be watching it because it’s too hard for him.
“Zoe’s realistic acting style, paired with a storyline about a mother passing away, means that it’s a beautiful and devastating storyline. But it was not fun to film at all,” Matt told the Digital Spy.
