Netflix Witcher fans have waited a long time in order to get new episodes of the fantasy drama, and that wait is about to be rewarded. Like its first season, the second season will only have eight episodes.
Netflix shared the news that the upcoming season will premiere on December 17 this Friday during its WitcherCon fan event. The series will continue where it left off, with a few new stars joining the cast for the second season. Based on the books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, “The Witcher” stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter trying to find his purpose in life when destiny brings him to meet a powerful sorceress and a young princess, who help him to navigate the dangerous land filled with mysterious beings.
“The Witcher” Season 2 Details
Per the official logline released by Netflix, this is what fans can expect from the second season: “Convinced Yennefer’s (Anya Chalotra) life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan) to the safest place he knows — his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
Along with the returning original casts, a number of stars will join the series in another “intense” and perilous journey filled with monsters and crazed wizards.
Bridgerton’s Adjoa Andoh will appear as Nenneke, Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) as Nivellen, Silent Witness’s Liz Carr as Fenn, Outlander’s Graham McTavish as Dijkstra, Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey) as Ba’lian, Simon Callow as Codringher, Chris Fulton (Bridgerton) as Rience, Yasen Atour (Young Wallander) as Coën, Agnes Bjorn (Monster) as Vereena, Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders) as Lambert, Basil Eidenbenz (Victoria) as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl) as Lydia, Cassie Clare (Delicious) as Phillippa Eilhart, and Mecia Simson as Francesca.
Also, Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla) will be closely focused on much more than in the first season. “Fringilla is one of those characters that we’re going to delve into even more,” Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the series creator and main writer, said (via Vulture). “We’re digging deeper into her past and how she ended up at Nilfgaard, who she is as a person, and how she and Yennefer ended up on such different paths. She gets to do a lot more.”
Another important addition to the series is Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve), who will be joining the second season as Vesemir, a witcher trainer. “Introducing Vesemir: Kim Bodnia will play the Continent’s oldest and most experienced Witcher in Season 2.”
Deadline reported that Dolittle star Carmel Laniado will appear in the show as “Violet, a young girl whose playful and whimsical demeanour is a front for a smarter and more sadistic character.”
In an interview with Pure Fandom, Hissrich shared: “Without spoilers, I will say that there’s a crop of new monsters, a new cost to magic, and new and unexpected pairings of our favourite characters.”
Hissrich also promised that there would definitely be more diversity in the second season.

What To Expect From “The Witcher” Season 2
“What I would say is that season one is very much about building blocks. It’s about constructing the world, and setting up these characters, and putting them on paths, and knocking those dominoes over,” Hissrich said in an interview with Digital Spy.
“When you get to season two, all of those things start to come to play, which is that characters start meeting each other – sometimes getting along, sometimes not. All those things that we set up – Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri, Yennefer and Ciri – all of the different kingdoms that you just barely hear about in season one, start rising to the surface in season two.”
