Donald Trump Biopic The Apprentice Debuts, His Campaign Calls It “Pure Fiction”A new movie about Donald Trump titled The Apprentice debuted today, Friday October 11, 25 days before the 2024 presidential election in which Trump and Kamala Harris are pitted against each other.

The film is an “an R-rated dramatization of the early years of Donald Trump.” It depicts his rise to the top of Manhattan real estate heap as a mentee of “fixer” Roy Cohn. What does Trump think of the dramatization of his life? According to NBC News, “Trump’s campaign says the film is “garbage.”

Donald Trump’s New Movie

The Apprentice is described as a biographical drama focused on his time in New York in the 1970s and 1980s. It is directed by Ali Abbasi, written by Gabriel Sherman, and stars Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Cohn, Martin Donovan as Trump’s father Fred, and Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife, Ivana.

The Apprentice Examines Donald Trump’s Early Life

The film, announced in 2018, is an international co-production between Canada, Denmark, Ireland, and the United States. It premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2024 but the Trump legal team worked to block its release. Briarcliff Entertainment released the movie on October 11, 2024, to generally positive reviews from critics.

Trump’s spokespeople have called the movie a source of “pure malicious defamation” and “garbage” and sent the producers a cease-and-desist letter.

Abbasi said that his movie presents the Republican nominee “as a human being” and sees the project as an “American character study.”

To this end, Abbasi views the movie from an anthropological, dramatic point of view instead of a decidedly political point of view.”

The Apprentice ends with Trump as the “self-styled master of Manhattan.” Abbasi delved into Trump’s anxious relationship with his exacting father, his grief after the death of his alcoholic brother Fred, and Cohn’s AIDS-related death.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung called The Apprenticepure fiction” and “election interference by Hollywood elites right before November.”

He added that “This ‘film’ is pure malicious defamation, should never see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire.”
