The Slaton siblings have all worked to qualify for bariatric surgery and while some have had success, others have not, and some 1000-Lb. Sisters fans believe that weight loss surgery won’t be enough.
Fans have followed along as the Slaton family has struggled with weight loss over the years and, despite the fact that several Slaton siblings have enjoyed measured success in their weight loss journeys, many fans feel that it isn’t enough for the Slaton family. Continue reading and we’ll give you the low down.
1000-Lb. Sisters – Each Slaton Has Made Varying Degrees Of Progress
Amy, Tammy, Chris, and Amanda have each many varying degrees of progress on their weight loss journeys but many 1000-Lb. Sisters fans do not believe that the family will be able to collectively rid themselves of their food addictions. Although each member of the Slaton family is at different stages of progress, the entire family has been working as a team over the years.
Fans will recall that in the first season of the show Tammy and Amy decided to commit themselves to lose weight with the initial goal of qualifying for life-saving bariatric surgery. In the second season, Tammy and Amy’s brother Chris joined them in their struggle. However, it wasn’t until season 3 that Chris was able to qualify for weight loss surgery.
When Amanda arrived on the show it was revealed that she had already had bariatric surgery years prior. Fans were naturally skeptical of her progress and fans still think that the Slaton’s will fail in their weight loss endeavors.
1000-Lb. Sisters – Viewers Caution That Surgery Isn’t The End Of Struggles
Even though three of the 1000-Lb. Sisters’ family have received the life-saving surgery, fans still don’t think that it will be enough to save the family. Many views are skeptical about the sibling’s belief that bariatric surgery will be the end of their struggles to maintain a healthy weight.
Tammy has tried and failed to qualify for the life-saving surgery but those of her siblings that did have demonstrated, albeit unwillingly, that the surgery is just the beginning of the struggle to get healthy. In addition to the physical aspect of recovery, the siblings have had to contend with the mental aspect which has led them all to their food addictions.

1000-Lb. Sisters – Redditors Think Slaton’s Need To Address Food Addictions
A Redditor explained that “bariatric procedures are only effective with learned habits” adding that they are not a “magical fix.” Another Reddit user surmised that the reason Amy and Tammy still struggle is that if “underlying food addiction or trauma isn’t treated” isn’t addressed during the bariatric process, it will not likely be successful.
Though the 1000-Lb. Sisters’ family has made great strides in their weight loss journeys, there is still much to do and, apparently, much they failed to do. Be sure to keep up with the Slatons and return here often for more spoilers, news, and updates.
