Alana Thompson’s life growing up is not your average coming-of-age story, and in an upcoming biopic for Lifetime, fans will get to explore the darker side of Alana’s childhood fame. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming biopic.
Alana Thompson To Narrate A Biopic About Her Life
Alana Thompson’s biopic ‘I Was Honey Boo Boo’ will premiere this May 17 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime and will feature the child reality TV star as the narrator.
Fans have more or less watched Alana grow up in the spotlight, battle family traumas – a lot of it – make friends, and even try her hand at dating and stuff.
This may seem routine for some of us, but for the star, there were a lot of things that were unusual about her life, and we’re not even talking about the mother June Shannon, aka Mama June.
But finally, all the parts of her life that have been so far successfully concealed from the rest of the world will be brought to light in the upcoming biopic.
In a press release for the biopic, we are told that Alana’s persona “concealed the harsh reality of constant criticism and family struggles, particularly with her mother, Mama June [Shannon].”
Alana’s rise to fame was also not a conventional one. She rose to fame competing on the kids’ pageant circuit as Honey Boo Boo.
It didn’t take long for her cheery overblown personality and her family’s colorful personality to catch the eye of the producers. Maybe at this point, you’d say that the rest is history, but Alana’s story was only just beginning.
The synopsis continues, “Behind closed doors were forced smiles, silent tears and the lingering sense of uncertainty for what the future held for Alana and her family.
After a series of scandals and legal troubles, Alana’s world was turned upside down and she was ultimately placed in the care of her older sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird (Georgia Small).”
“Now in college, Alana is determined to shake off the labels that have followed her, shed light on the darker side of child stardom and forge a path to overcome generational trauma and challenges,” it concludes.
Vale Cooper will star as Alana Thompson in the film, while Chelsea Larkin will play the mother. In addition to Cooper, Larkin and Small, Isabelle Ayres will star as older Alana, Mia Turley as Young Pumpkin and Neil Chinneck, as her father, Sugar Bear.
