Below Deck Med Season 9 brings a less strict Captain Sandy, and Aesha Scott, her chief stew returned after a stint with Captain Jason Chambers on Below Deck Down Under. Bravo critics think the ‘high school drama’ gets out of control under the two leaders on The Mustique.
Below Deck Med Leadership Is Not Good?
Aesha Scott was admired on Below Deck Down Under, but when she returned to Captain Sandy Yawn’s vessel as chief stew, she didn’t seem to be so good at managing her staff. A massive feud broke out between experienced Ellie Dubaich and third stew Bri Muller. The drama became out of hand and a love triangle developed.
Below Deck Med fans saw that to her credit, Aesha Scott seemed short-staffed. However, that didn’t stop the criticism from arriving. There seem to be way too many scenes of the girls gathering to chat rather than her developing a good management attitude. At least that’s what some Bravo fans think right now.
Too Much High School Drama
On Reddit over the weekend, one Bravo fan felt that it was time to undo the impression that Aesha Scott is a good chief stew under Captain Sandy Yawn. Notably, though, they didn’t slam her personal abilities to get the job done. Rather, they went for her management style.

Aesha not good chief stew…Hear me out first… Aesha always seems to have the inexperienced staff and the stews are never able to get along and are always bickering and having issues. I believe that while she’s very good at her job she lacks the leadership and ability to have tough conversations the correct these actions. I just don’t think she’s a good chief stew and it shows this season…Does anyone else see it this way?!
Surprisingly, not a lot of people stepped up in defense of Aesha Scott. The Bravo star isn’t impressing many fans in Season 9. Here are some of the comments:
- Hot damn, it’s almost like these people are hired for their ability to create entertaining television instead of their professionalism.
- … back in Kate and Hannah’s day it seemed like they hired girls who … at least worked on a few boats… of course, you would have a few bad ones for drama. But now it seems like they specifically under staff and hire bad eggs, thinking that’s the drama we watch the show for. Me personally I’m kinda over it… now it’s 95% highschool drama.
- …going to each stew individually, asking their version of events, and then acknowledging that there are three sides to every story…and then doing absolutely nothing to try to resolve the problem.
What are your thoughts about the quality of the staff employed on the Bravo franchise? Do you agree that Aesha Scott might not be great at managing her crew? What about Captain Sandy Yawn? Is she too laid back now that she mellowed a bit? Sound off in the comments below, and come back here often for all your spoilers, news, and updates about Below Deck Med.
