Former Bachelor Colton Underwood recently dropped some tea about the casting of the lead for Season 30. And, given the lack of excitement about Grant Ellis, it seems that ABC is taking a different direction. Read on to find out what he said this week.

Clayton’s Got His Finger On The Pulse?

The former lead took the role in Season 26 of the show, and before that, he appeared on The Bachelorette. Recently, he and Gabby Windey clashed when she dissed his dancing on social media.

Of course, he dissed her back, and for a bit, they were headliners. However, that’s in the past now, as are rumors that he fathered twins with Laura Michelle Owens. That fizzled out, and he’s quiet now. But, it seems that he keeps his finger on the pulse.

On August 11, Swoon reported that Clayton Echard talked about what he’s been hearing for the next season. He told the outlet that he’s not even trying to get recast. However, he thinks he knows what the ABC execs are looking for.

Clayton said, “To tell you this, a little insider info.” He added, “They’re…looking for somebody that hasn’t been on reality television prior.” That seem interesting, and possibly lies at the door of Grant Ellis who never really got off the ground with his season.

Some Potentially Shocking Choices?

The former ABC star claimed that he knows some of the guys that are being considered. And, he told the outlet that some of them seem rather shocking. He elaborated, saying, “I’m excited. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. I mean, I’m very shocked with a few of them…”

Talking about “the shortlist,” he added, “I can’t believe that this is a possibility.” It does seem a bit interesting because it’s not the first time that ABC moved away from former cast members in Bachelor Nation.

Will It Work?

Golden Bachelor Season 2, which premieres in September this year, will also feature a lead that didn’t formerly appear on the franchise. Fans will see Mel Owens. It’s not clear if it will work out for the ratings.

Remember, there was a lot of controversy over what he said  about the women he prefers. And rumors were rife that he was fired before he began. He’s a retired lawyer who used to play football. Not everyone is thrilled about a footballer.

Remember, Colton Underwood later married another guy and now has a baby. And footballer Ryan Hoag, from Season 4 of The Bachelorette was eliminated in the second week. That’s not to say the new lead will be a footballer, but opinions are still out on whether a newcomer to the franchise will work.
