On March 5 two years ago, Sister Wives star Garrison Brown died after taking his own life, and his mom, Janelle Brown, naturally felt devastated. This year, she posted about the sad anniversary and TLC fans noticed her sadness was also offset a bit by new beginnings. Read on for more details.
The Inital Reaction Targeted Reality TV
When Garrison passed away, a huge backlash arrived because it all seemed tied into kids being used for reality TV shows. However, overwhelming grief arrived on social media. And notably, it wasn’t all from members of Kody Brown’s family.
Millions of comments on posts expressed the heartbreak and compassion that TLC fans felt. In fact, they adored him because Garrison Brown loved cats, supported shelters, and also stood up to Kody Brown and Robyn.
Coping With The Loss
Over the years, naturally, other members of the family apart from Janelle Brown shared their sorrow about their sibling and extended family son. However, time has a way of healing the broken-hearted, even if just a little bit. And it seems Janelle copes a bit better with her loss these days.

On Thursday, her Instagram post showed a photo of her smiling boy in his military outfit. Every inch a strong and loyal man, it seemed very special. But, her caption revealed a lot about her state of mind these days.
Preparing For The Anniverary Day
The Sister Wives star wrote, “Hi sweetheart.” Then she talked about how she felt his presence throughout the day. Referring to the photo she posted, she said, “This is my favorite picture of you. You were so happy.”
Janelle Brown then revealed how she’s prepared herself for the anniversary of Garrison Brown’s passing. She wrote, “[I] protected this day on my calendar for weeks.”
Not sure how she planned on spending the day, she said, “I wanted the ability to choose when the day arrived.”
What Did Janelle Do?
As it happened, the day wasn’t spent in quiet reflection. Busy with movers, she couldn’t reschedule. Remember, she moved away from Flagstaff and bought a new home at Taeda Farms in Chocowinity, North Carolina.
Moving into her new place gave Janelle some meaning regarding the timing. So, she described it as “the perfect thing,” noting that being busy felt important.
“It was also significant to me that today would have signs of the new chapter, the new life that has begun for me since you left,” she shared.
Janelle ended her tribute with a simple message: “I love you always Garrison.”
TLC Fans React
TLC fans cried a river of real tears when Garrison passed away, and the anniversary message made them cry all over again. One follower wrote in the comments, “Make me cry! You are such a beautiful soul and mother.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
