Joe Gorga Admits His Wife’s Initiation To His Family Wasn’t Easy: ‘She Took A Beating’

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Joe Gorga admits that his wife Melissa Gorga “took a beating” when she married him and joined his family. That’s because many members of his family – including his sister Teresa Giudice – didn’t make her life easy the moment she became a Gorga herself. Here’s what you need to know.

The reality television couple have been married since 2004 and have three children: Antonia, Gino and Joey. While on the Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, JOe said, “My mother was rough on her, my dad was rough on her,” and also added rather sarcastically, “and my sister was great.”

He then continued, “She’s a good woman and then she married into an old-school Italian family and she took a beating — she did. And that’s why I respect her and love her because you know what, she’s the best.”

Things haven’t always been very easy for the Gorgas and the Giudices since then. While they’ve certainly had their ups and downs, Teresa was shocked when her brother and sister-in-law didn’t show up to her wedding to her new husband, Luis Ruelas. Not only that, but it seems like they’ve had just as much drama off screen as they have had on screen.

There was also some speculation that suggested Teresa was none too pleased when she heard that Melissa would be joining the Real Housewives of New Jersey nearly a decade ago. In an interview with People, Melissa said that she and her husband are going to leave the Bravo series when they feel the time is right, and not when Teresa dictates for them to do so.

Melissa said, “Yeah, I mean listen, when the time is right. I think we’ll know when the time is right and it’s just not working anymore. For right now, I love Bravo. I love being a part of the show. “I feel like we got this right [now]. We got it handled over here, we’re doing okay, but when the time is right, I will walk and I will take it as a wonderful memory.”
