Katie Thurston In Limbo After New Tests Show Conflicting Results

Former Bachelorette Katie Thurston was in tears during her pre-chemotherapy class for her cancer. However, things seem to be on hold after conflicting test results caused some confusion. Read on to find out what’s happening.

The Treatment Might Have To Change 

On Reddit, u/KittyPurry54 shared a post by the ABC star who recently married her fiance, Jeff Arcuri. They said, “Recent update from Katie on her breast cancer diagnosis…I can’t imagine how scary it must be to not only get diagnosed with cancer but then get conflicting results.”

In the post, they shared a screenshot of a story by Katie that said:

UPDATE: today I was supposed to start chemo. I had my cold cap, my socks, snacks, blankets, medications, entertainment ready. My aunt Lindsey flew in to be with me this weekend for recovery. However, yesterday I got the call that my pathology results on my liver, breast, and lymph nodes all came back HER2+ Negative even though my original samples as Kaiser were HER2+. I was minutes away from taking my steroid for chemo prep…

Initially, she said that she “should feel excited” as chemo might be off the table. But, it is complex. 

The Next Update On Boobie Broadcast

On Friday, another post by the Bachelor Nation star showed that everything seems awry. So, she’s going with her oncologist’s opinion for now. That post said, “It’s hard for me to be excited. As of right now, my plan has now shifted to anti-estrogen medications (letrozole) + a targeted oral therapy (ribociclib) + Zoladex.”

Katie Thurston further explained that her “Columbia tests,” including the MammaPrint, indicate “HER2-negative” breast cancer. However, initial “Kaiser” biopsies showed “HER2+.” To check it out, the samples are being “retested.” Was there a mistake? Anyway, they have to wait for the results again because the treatment might have to change. So, right now, she’s sitting in limbo.

What Does It All Mean?

Checking it out on My Cleveland Clinic, it really seems confusing. Both types of breast cancer require treatment, but it can make a difference as to how it gets treated. It’s no wonder that Katie Thurston isn’t getting too excited right now.

The website explained in part, “With a breast cancer diagnosis, information about whether breast cancer is HER2-negative plays a huge role in helping your healthcare provider plan treatment. Treatments that work for HER2-negative breast cancer may not be effective with HER2-positive breast cancer and vice versa.”

For now, fans of the ABC dating show can only feel the frustration and uncertainty of what is very disturbing for Katie. Hopefully, the test results will somehow turn out favorable for her potential recovery.
