Does Mama June even care about her youngest daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson at all? This is the question going on in Alana’s mind after her own mother who barely took part in raising her, blatantly told her she doesn’t have money for her college funds.
In a Friday episode of their family reality TV, “Mama June: Family Crisis,” the matriarch, 44, broke Alana’s heart with her response when she was asked to help Alana with some money for her college funds, (Alana is studying nursing at Regis University in Colorado). Mama June blatantly told her 18-year-old that she is “rebuilding my life” after spending so much on her past addictions.
She went on to add some other craps to buttress her point, “If I didn’t give a f— about you and I didn’t care about you succeeding and doing the things you want to do, I wouldn’t be saying this.” Coming from a mom who played little to no role in raising Alana, this is a big blow.
Alana was raised by her big sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird after Mama June lost the custody battle to Lauryn. Mama June’s daughters later accepted her back as their mother after she returned and pleaded that she wanted to be more committed in their lives. Imagine their shock when Mama June told them that she had no money.
Mama June — Alana Thinks Her Mother Is “Stingy”
After Alana and Lauryn left their mother’s house, Alana lamented to Lauryn that “Mama doesn’t want me to leave” for college, and Lauryn pointed out that their mom is “just avoiding all motherly responsibilities for Alana.”
During their drive back home, Alana painfully told her sister, “Maybe she thinks that paying for [her husband] Justin’s chains or something is more important than giving it to me for college. She’s stingy when it comes to money.”
She continued, It kind of just pisses me off because she can help everyone around her … but it’s just like when it comes to me it’s like ‘Well, Alana I can’t do nothing for you, I don’t have the money’ and she knows she’s got the money,” she went on to add, “It would have been nice to have her help. I don’t know it’s like she doesn’t believe in me, for real.”
Meanwhile, back in her house, Mama June told her husband Justin Stroud, “I’m still rebuilding my life, that is why I have chose to give her some tough love and say ‘No, I’m not going to pay for college,’ It’s me wanting her to see the bigger picture.”
She went on to admit, “Truth to be known, Pumpkin may be mad and I’m sorry and the world may be mad and think that I’m the worst person ever, I’ve lied to my children over the years. I’ve lied to them and told them that you can’t get your money until you’re 21 so they wouldn’t blow through it.”
After hearing what his wife said she did to her children, Justin supported her adding, “It’s smart to do it like that, Junebug, but the end of the day that’s one of those life lessons that she’s going to have to learn.”
