Todd Chrisley’s daughter Savannah Chrisley has devoted her past podcasts to discussing her parents. And that focus on Julie and Todd Chrisley seems understandable in the wake of their prison sentences. However, Savannah focused on her own life in her most recent podcast.
And the Chrisley Knows Best alum recalled how she swallowed a bottle of pills in a suicide attempt. Find out what Todd’s and Julie’s daughter shared about that experience as a teenager. And get more details about how it impacted Savannah’s life today below.
Savannah Chrisley – Recalls Teenage Suicide Attempt
Chrisley Knows Best alum Savannah Chrisley used her latest podcast episode to recall what happened when she tried to kill herself as a teenager. And the 25-year-old described to her podcast guest Dr. Daniel Amen the events before and after her suicide attempt. Recalling how she “took a bottle of pills” in her teen years, Savannah shared the impact on her life today, according to Page Six.
In the episode of her Unlocked With Savannah Chrisley podcast, the reality TV alum revealed she struggles with brain fog and memory problems. And she noted that the suicide attempt “obviously didn’t work. Because I’m sitting here today — thank God. But ever since then I feel like with my brain, my memory, it’s the most frustrating thing in the world because it feels so foggy,” added the Chrisley Knows Best alum.
Savannah shared that preacher Joel Osteen deserves credit for “kinda saving” her from further attempts at suicide. Because the morning after the then-teenager swallowed the bottle of pills, her father Todd Chrisley showed her a Romans 8:28 devotional. And the devotional “stated that through whatever hardships and adversities you go through, God’s gonna turn around and use it to your advantage,” explained the reality TV alum. As a result, Savannah feels her state of mind shifted “in a snap of a finger.”
Savannah Chrisley – Recalls How Her Family Hid Suicide Attempt
Because of the devotional, the Chrisley Knows Best alum felt that she achieved a turnaround emotionally. And Savannah explained, “I went from this anger towards God to in my heart saying, ‘All right, God, you know what, why not me?’ Like, ‘What makes me any better to have to go through these things than anyone else?’” However, she also shared her reasons for trying “committing suicide as a teenager.”
And looking back, the Chrisley Knows Best alum cited “a multitude of” reasons for swallowing the bottle of pills. For instance, Savannah admitted that “the things people would say” impacted her. However, she also pointed out that her family never revealed her attempt at suicide. And she shared that they “hid it so well, no one knew.”
But in the wake of her suicide attempt, Savannah began what she now calls “game-chang[ing]” intensive therapy. And her father Todd has offered his own views on emotional struggles. Currently serving his first year of a 12-year federal prison sentence, Todd has stated, “Mental illness should not be made fun of [and] should not be taken lightly.”
