Teddi Mellencamp, formerly on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, (RHOBH) has always been an accomplished equestrian. On March 8, she told her fans that she found joy in riding horses again after her discharge from the hospital following brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors.

Getting Back In The Saddle

Mellencamp’s scary cancer experience in 2025 began with a diagnosis of brain tumors, discovered after a history of melanoma. The Bravo alum’s doctors revealed the tumors needed immediate action. Following surgery to remove two of the larger tumors, she faced the prospect of radiation treatment for the remaining smaller ones.

Unfortunately, Mellencamp also updated by letting RHOBH fans know that she has additional tumors in her lungs and all of them were metastases from her melanoma. For now, she hopes that radiation and immunotherapy will help her. But, she’s determined to live life to the fullest and she got back into the saddle this weekend.

Rejecting Negativity & Finding Joy

In her Instagram Stories, Teddi Mellencamp was specific about not wanting people around her to be negative. “Thank you all for the support. I am feeling great and got approval from my doctors to ride today. This makes my heart and soul happy,” she wrote.

Addressing those who might be worried, she emphasized “When you are sick or have cancer, your mental health is very important. I must keep going and give myself joy and goals. I am always going to fight to be my best…” she stated.

Additionally, the Bravo alum reminded followers that she unknowingly rode with large brain tumors “for six months,” and those are “now gone,” so she feels safe on horseback. There’s no place in her life right now for negativity, so she asked people not to tell her to not ride.

Slate Makes Her Mama Proud

Teddi Mellencamp already told her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fans how much she adores her three kids, and it was Slate who made her feel so proud. In another story, she explained that Slate, 12, performed very well, securing a place in the “Top 12” of the “national Derby.”

Before the Bravo star fell so ill with her cancer, she’d filed for divorce from her husband, Edwin Arroyave. But, he stepped up to support her after her hospital admission. Friends, family, and horseriding will hopefully help her to continue the fight against cancer.

Mental Health Is Vital

Cancer can be deadly, but it’s not always fatal these days. Many people, like Teddi, said “F**k Cancer.” It’s a fight, and negativity isn’t encouraged. Why is it that so many people, when hearing a cancer diagnosis seem to love telling stories about how their grandma died from it?

According to The American Cancer Society’s website, “…there are studies that have shown being optimistic and having a positive attitude can lead to a better quality of life for people with cancer. Many cancer survivors…believe being optimistic and positive makes their outlook on life better.”
