Publicized as reality TV’s biggest wedding ever, the Golden Bachelor episode called the Golden Wedding will air on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET., on ABC.

And it features Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist, 70. Theresa’s diamond ring is valued at $40,000, per Collider.

But how does it feel to tie the knot only weeks after first meeting? Theresa feels excited about her wedding. But the Golden Bachelor star also called it “insane.” However, she looks forward to the future, feeling “over the moon” about her life.

And Gerry shared, “When you get to this age, every moment is precious, and you don’t want to waste them. Now we’ve got a date out there that we can look forward to, rather than every day that we had to keep it secret. It’s a totally different mindset.”

Jesse Palmer famously became the youngest Bachelor star at 25. But then the former New York Giants quarterback took over the host position of the Bachelor and, most recently, the Golden Bachelor. And ABC anticipates big ratings for the live two-hour primetime special. 

Guests will include host Jesse Palmer and all 22 of the contestants who competed to win Gerry’s heart on the Golden Bachelor. And the Instagram account read, “You are cordially invited to the first wedding in #TheGoldenBachelor history! Save the date: January 4.”

And the wedding will give Gerry and Theresa the chance to tie the knot for a second time. Theresa’s marriage lasted for 42 years before her husband, 63, died. And Gerry married his wife, Toni, in 1974, staying faithful until her death at age 66.

However, as ABC producers rush around putting the final touches on the wedding, the Golden Bachelor has become controversial. For instance, Gerry claimed that he didn’t date after his wife’s death. However, a report revealed that he romanced multiple women, and even was on a holiday with a gal pal when producers offered him the role on the Golden Bachelor.

And Turner also described himself as a retired restaurant owner. But investigations showed that he worked as a handyman installing hot tubs and a maintenance man at a hospital, where he met one of his girlfriends after his wife’s death. That woman was 14 years younger.

And Gerry’s hidden romantic history included living with a woman for nearly a year. An insider shared that Turner “dated a couple of women. They weren’t long-term, but they weren’t short-term either. He was with a couple of women for a decent amount of time, but it just didn’t work out.”

As a result, some viewers ridiculed Turner for what they see as his lies. And he also later tried to clarify the situation in an interview. “I dated a number of women,” admitted the Golden Bachelor star. “But then it becomes an issue of how you define whether you’re in a relationship.”

However, Gerry also reportedly has battled Theresa over a prenup. And he feels “offended that she doesn’t trust him,” shared an insider. “They’re bickering all the time now — unless the cameras are on.”
