Todd Chrisley joined Savannah Chrisley and Deputy Assistant to the President–Lynne Patton–on the Unlocked podcast this week. The recently pardoned Chrisley Knows Best alum discussed his objectives regarding prison reform. As he served about two years and four months in Pensacola, he’s got some firsthand experience with life behind bars.

Prisons & Statistics

It seems that the USA alum believes that justice isn’t working very well. However, that doesn’t mean he wants all prisons abolished. Chrisley said, “I believe in prison. Yes, I’m not sitting here saying ‘abolish prison.” He believes that some folks deserve to be there.

Talking about the huge number of people sent to prison, he followed that up by saying, “But at the end of the day we we incarcerate more individuals in the United States of America than any other country in the world.”

High Rates Of Re-offending

Many people end up back inside after prison. So, he pointed out that “we then have the highest recidivism rate of anyone else in the world.” What does that mean? Well, he was talking about those who serve time, get out, and then relapse and end up back inside.

Next, the dad of five asked, “So if we are the number one country of incarceration, should we not be the number one country in lowering recidivism?”

Finally, Todd Chrisley concluded, “On that note, thank you for showing up to today’s episode.” Ending the podcast, he talked about how he’d been “unlocked,” adding, “that’s amazing.”

Fighting For Justice

Now that he’s out of prison, it seems that Todd will join his daughter, Savannah Chrisley, in her fight to change the way people serve time. However, he also seems to be taking the angle that if the prisons are not reforming people, then there’s something very wrong.

Perhaps, like his daughter, he believes that there should be more rehabilitation than days served behind bars, needlessly costing the taxpayer money and destroying the lives of families.

Other Raised Points

Before Todd Chrisley joined the podcast, Savannah and Lynne talked about how she never had to “pay anyone” or “sleep with anyone” to get a pardon for her dad. Lynne, who worked for Donald Trump for a very long time, said that she never saw anything improper within the family.

She also said that people like the Chrisleys and the Trumps always get bad press. The pair discussed how the tiniest thing gets blown up to make people look bad. Later, the former reality TV star talked about CNN mocking them as “the Clinton News Network.” He also noted that previous presidents did some shocking things, alluding to Bill Clinton’s “under the desk” scandal.
