Julie And Todd Chrisley’s – Lawyer Talks Appeal Details
Because Todd Chrisley repeatedly insisted on his innocence, the Chrisley Knows Best star faced a dilemma. And that resulted from his January prison surrender date. But the challenge also stems from his innocence, his attorney told People.
Julie, 50, and Todd, 53, started their sentences behind bars on Tuesday. And in the wake of the Chrisley Knows Best stars’ prison situation, their attorney discussed his views. Alex Little of Burr & Forman LLP claims that federal prosecutors did not act fairly. For instance, Little believes that the Georgia Department of Revenue performed an “unconstitutional search.”
But the Chrisley Knows Best stars’ attorney also revealed that the court agreed on the problems with the search. “This court’s already found that was unconstitutional,” said Little. “And it should’ve stopped the whole case in its tracks. That didn’t happen. And that’s certainly one of the things we’re pursuing on the appeal.”
Chrisley Knows Best – Attorney Reflects On Todd’s Taxes
However, Little also discussed the issues connected with Todd and Julie’s taxes. And he shared, “One of the IRS officers testified about whether the Chrisleys had paid certain taxes. That certainly, we think, affected the jury,” added the Chrisley Knows Best stars’ lawyer. “And we believe it will be basis for a new trial.”
But Little explained that seeking an appeal means ultimately hoping for justice. And he noted that involves analyzing “different players in each step in a criminal prosecution.” The attorney hopes to see the appeals court “review” what others such as the judge, jury, and prosecutor did.
“Those are different people, and you can believe that you are sort of harmed at the lower levels,” added Little. As a result of that belief, he feels “hopeful that [the appeals court] will stop when you move on along the appeal.” And Todd and Julie’s lawyer shared that above all, the two aim to show their innocence.
Todd Chrisley -Slammed For Showing No Remorse
But the Chrisley Knows Best stars failed to show any remorse amid the legal charges. And Little reflected on that concern. He admitted, “Courts want to hear defendants accept responsibility. But it’s also hard to accept responsibility when you haven’t done what you’re accused of doing.”
And the attorney feels that those who maintain their innocence face that challenge. For instance, he recalled representing “people who have been found not guilty of murder a decade later. And that whole time some court believed they weren’t showing remorse when they were actually innocent. So, it’s always a dilemma for anybody who’s wrongfully convicted.”
But the Chrisley Knows Best clan remains positive, according to Little. And he feels their faith will help them during the appeal. Because the attorney believes that the government made errors during the trial, Little feels optimistic. “But Todd and Julie are people of faith, and that faith gives them strength as they appeal their convictions,” summed up Little.
