Savannah Chrisley Shares Mom’s Letters From Prison, Including How She Keeps Busy
If you haven’t heard Julie Chrisley complain about prison life, it’s because she’s found a way to keep herself busy. Not only that, the reality star has found a way to be valuable to her fellow inmates.
On Tuesday’s episode of Savannah’s unlocked podcast, the 26-year-old read out letters her mom had sent her from prison, and how education has become important to her.
“I’m teaching a real estate class and I asked where I could get the info for the class,” Julie, 51, shared across one of several letters. “There’s an outdated book and access to a typewriter if you buy the ribbon and commissary.”
As well as being a teacher, Julie is using the time to wisen herself up on other prison courses that draw her interest. “I have two classes tonight, too, and also being a judge for one of the other classes. I’m one of the sharks for their Shark Tank presentation,” she added.
The “Chrisley Knows Best” alum noted that Julie’s First Step Act (FSA) serves as a way for prisoners to get credits towards their early release score.
The Bureau of Prisons calls these “reentry programs” as “designed to ensure all sentenced inmates have the skills necessary to succeed upon release.”
Even though the famous reality TV star proclaimed her first course “a waste of time,” she did console herself with the fact that she gets “credit.”
Nevertheless, while the course didn’t do her any good apart from improving her score system, she did admit it helped some of her fellow inmates.
“I went upstairs and everyone was going crazy,” she shared. “FSA credits had been applied and so many people’s dates got moved up. It’s going to be a crazy week. Lots of people are getting released.”
The letters were apparently written during Julie’s first few weeks at Federal Medical Center Lexington in Kentucky.
She and her husband reported to prison in January 2023 after they were found guilty of tax evasion and monetary fraud.
