There are new reports that say Henry Kissinger, who was best known as a diplomat and Nobel winner, has died at the age of 100. Some believe that the former Secretary of State had shaped the U.S.
Cold War and was also perhaps one of the most powerful people in the history of U.S. politics. He was also known as a political scientist and geopolitical consultant. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Henry Kissinger Died At His Home In Connecticut.
According to new reports, Henry Kissinger died at his home in Connecticut. He was born in Furth, Germany. His family was German-Jewish.
The controversial figure was both applauded and criticized as both a strategist and manipulator, but he did win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for negotiating the Paris Peace Accords to end U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
Back in June, Kissinger opened up to Bloomberg News about the current state of affairs. Some of the things that he talked about included whether or not Vladimir Putin and Russia will survive their crisis with Ukraine, Britain’s future in a post-Brexit world and whether or not Germany can remain as a leading country in Europe.
He said at the time, “Leaders who have not had an experience of catastrophe or the edge of catastrophe sometimes believe that they have more options than they really do. That is characteristic of our time,” while also adding, “the current trajectory of relations must be altered.”
Henry Kissinger Fled Nazi Germany
Kissinger fled Nazi Germany with his family one year before World War II broke out in Europe in 1938. Kissinger was only 15 at the time.
After he graduated high school, he studied accounting at the City College of New York. In 1943, he was drafted in the U.S. Army. Upon his return, he then studied and graduated from Harvard where he earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees.
Kissinger received numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1977, Kissinger received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Gerald Ford. And in 2012, he was awarded Israel’s Presidential Medal.
He also received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and served as the Honorary Chair of the advisory board for the Bloomberg New Economy Forum.
