Malcolm‑Jamal Warner Autopsy Confirms Tragic Cause of Death

Malcolm‑Jamal Warner, 54. passed way while on vacation in Costa Rica and now, an autopsy  officially confirmed how the actor, best known as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, suffered an uneasy  death.

The Official Cause Of Death

Although people tied to help when Malcolm-Jamal was found unresponsive in the water. it was too late. In a statement to People, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) revealed that the autopsy was conducted on July 22. It concluded that Warner’s death resulted from “accidental asphyxiation by submersion.”

Most people assumed that he  had drowned, but there could have been other reasons, like a sudden heart attack. So the death by “accidental asphyxiation by submersion” confirmed that he drowned.

PMC NCBI noted that drowning can be painful, and that many people who experienced it described the sensations as “painful,” “awful,” a “struggle,” or “shocking.” Meanwhile, others described a “burning sensation.” However, it isn’t often long and protracted, which is in a way merciful.

Rescuers Tried To Save Him

Warner had reportedly swum in the sea at Playa Cocles, near Limón, on July 20. He entered the sea and was “apparently swept away by a current.” Bystanders then rescued him and rushed him to shore, where the Costa Rican “Red Cross” administered aid. Unfortunately, he wasn’t revivable and he was declared dead at the scene.

Born in 1970, Malcolm-Jamal Warner first gained fame as Theo Huxtable. After that, he also landed roles in sitcoms like Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines. Folks also saw him on The Resident, Major Crimes, Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, and more per ABC News.

Tributes Roll In 

Friends and colleagues across the entertainment industry expressed their sad feeling about the death. Resident co-star Morris Chestnut described Warner as “one of the nicest in the business,” while Suits actor Patrick J. Adams praised his “generosity of spirit.”

Plenty of fans also had their say and paid their respects on Reddit and other social media platforms. Many of them remembered him with affection. One person who met him decades ago related an anecdote. They said:

My father and I met him randomly at Disney World while on line for Star Tours. He just happened to be right in front of us waiting to get in. I think the show had been on maybe only the first season. My dad said to him ‘My wife and I wish our family was as easy as the Huxtables’” and he laughed and went ‘My dad says the same thing'”
