Brits Could Care Less If Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Return To Royal Duties

A new survey reveals that Britons couldn’t care if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the royal family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially left the British monarchy for the California lifestyle. The couple has been laying low in Los Angeles amid the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step down from their senior royal duties.

The Brits couldn’t care less about them anymore. They’re glad to see the couple gone. According to a new poll published by Newsweek, most Britons couldn’t care less about the couple returning to the royal family. This comes amid the scrutiny over how they handled the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Page Six, the survey asked 1,500 U.K. residents how the spread of COVID-19 affected their viewpoints on various members of the royal family. Twenty percent said that their view of Meghan Markle has improved, while 36% have a negative opinion on the Duchess of Sussex. When it comes to Harry, 33% said they have a worse view on him in the coronavirus world compared to 19% who have positive opinions.

Fifty percent of Britons said that the couple shouldn’t return to the royal family. Twenty-eight percent feel that they should and 18% are unsure. Harry and Meghan made the decision to give up their positions on their own. But Newsweek claims that decision is currently under review. If things don’t work out for the couple, they could return to their previous positions by 2021.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll was conducted before the news of their charity work in Los Angeles. According to Richard Ayoub, CEO of non-profit Project Angel Food, the couple wore N95 masks and gloves to drop off a week’s worth of food and three weeks’ worth of non-perishable foods to 20 of its clients. Insiders told Page Six that the couple has been helping those in need amid the pandemic.

“They’ve actually volunteered a few times. What’s so lovely is that the organization has now seen an uptick in donations, many of which people have been making in honor of [their] baby, Archie’s, first birthday on May 6. This makes Meghan and Harry so happy as it’s something so meaningful for his birthday that they will otherwise have to spend in lockdown.”
