Camilla Parker Bowles reportedly helped Prince Charles during some of the darker moments he had in his life, and before his marriage to Princess Diana. Here’s what you need to know.
According to Express.co.uk, Howard Hodgson, author of the biography Charles: The Man Who Will Be King, he said that even though he was getting a lot of attention for being a bachelor and a prince, he was also secretly suffering in silence. That’s because everything that could go wrong in his life was going wrong and that he also did not feel the need to speak with anyone about his mental health.

Hodgson explained: “His home life with the Princess was dismal; Mrs. Thatcher and her government weren’t as receptive to his ideas as he would have liked; his courtiers were always cautioning him against upsetting her; the press ridiculed him; his father was unsympathetic; he had no close relationship with his mother; he still missed the guiding hand of Mountbatten; Anne had drifted out of his life, and his wife had banished most of his friends — and even his dog.”
However, if there was one person that Charles could talk to, it was his friend and confidant at the time, Camilla Parker Bowles. This was before his courtship to Princess Diana. At the time, Prince Charles had at least a good piece of mind knowing that if he ever needed to, he could pick up the phone and call Camilla. Hodgson explained: “It may be supposed that his previously close relationship with Camilla made this possible: he was certain that he could talk to her and whatever he said would remain secret. It was not long before they struck up a romantic relationship once again.”

Yet the moment he became engaged to Princess Diana, he and Camilla were no longer in contact. Prince Charles went on to marry and divorce Princess Diana before her death in 1997. He married Camilla Parker Bowles in 2005.
