Dolly Parton Declines Tea With Kate Middleton
Tea with a princess might sound like a dream come true to some. But for country music queen Dolly Parton, sipping tea with the Princess Of Wales just didn’t suit her schedule.
And Dolly also confessed that she assumed meeting Kate Middleton probably wouldn’t boost her record sales.
Parton made her confession about refusing tea with Kate on a BBC Radio 2 interview. Host Claudia Winkleman asked the 77-year-old country music songstress what she planned to do during her visit to London. But Dolly shared that she felt so busy that she couldn’t meet the Princess of Wales, 41, revealed People.
“This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate,” announced the music legend. “And I felt so bad.” But Dolly’s schedule had become so packed in promoting her album Rockstar that she “couldn’t even go! They had all this stuff set up.”

Princess Kate Can Look Forward To Tea With Dolly
However, Parton praised Princess Kate for her “very sweet and nice” gesture. And Dolly promised that one day, she would sip tea with a member of the royal family. But she joked that beyond her busy schedule, she found another reason for refusing to take time for Kate.
“She wasn’t going to promote my rock album, so I had to say no,” teased Parton about the Princess Of Wales. However, despite missing tea, Dolly has met the royal family before. And in 1977, she even performed at Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee.
But Dolly recalled that she felt fearful about how to curtsy. “Even though you have to do the protocol, you have to bow and all that, I could tell that she didn’t care about that. That’s just something she had to do,” Parton theorized. “And if somebody made a mistake, it was OK.”
Dolly Parton Honors Queen Elizabeth
However, Dolly admitted she felt “scared to death” at the time about miscalculating her curtsy. But she praised Queen Elizabeth for her “very warm, very sweet” and “very giving” nature. And she gushed, “Just meeting the Queen of England, just to meet a queen, it was amazing.”
And when Queen Elizabeth died in September 2022, Parton honored her on social media. “She carried herself with grace and strength her entire life,” praised Dolly. And she posted a photo of her meeting with the Queen. “May she Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.”
Fans (who may or may not include Kate Middleton) can purchase Parton’s Rockstar album starting in mid November. And it includes contributions from several U.K. music legends, including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Frampton, Sting and Simon Le Bon.
