Prince Charles is currently the Duke of Cornwall, but once he becomes king, his son will replace him. Along with their new titles, William and Kate will also be entitled to the profits of the Duchy of Cornwall. The area encompasses 135,000 acres of land in southwest England and an investment portfolio.

In addition, the estate also includes farms, residential and commercial properties, natural resources, quarries, forests, and coastal areas. The current net value is a whopping $1.2 billion dollars. Right now, Prince Charles is the longest-serving Duke of Cornwall.

He was given the title when Queen Elizabeth assumed the throne back in 1952. Even though he was a toddler back then, he was given full rights and responsibilities on his 21st birthday. Of course, time will only tell how Prince William and Kate Middleton will take on their new roles and their new responsibilities.

Will they visit as often as Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles? Will they take their titles and roles in Cornwall just as seriously?

No one knows for sure. So far Prince Charles has done a very good job of nurturing the estate. It will be up to Prince William to continue his father’s legacy in order for the area to prosperously thrive for years to come.
