King Charles wants to pass on his reverence for the natural world to Prince George and has altered his gardens so that George can roam at will with his brother and sister. To this end he has implemented three big changes.

Prince Charles told BBC Radio 4: “The most important thing is I got him [George] planting a tree or two here, so we planted it together and shoveled in the earth.”

He added “That’s the way I think, when you are very small, and then each time they come you say, ‘Do you see how much the tree has grown?’ or whatever, and you hope that they take an interest.”

Secondly, Prince Charles turned an “empty field” into a gorgeous woodland in commemoration of George’s birth. This green area is located on the Birkhall Estate in Balmoral, Aberdeenshire.

He told the BBC:This was a rather empty field that the farm didn’t need anymore. The great thing was, I managed to plant it the same year that my grandson was born, the eldest, George. So, I thought I’d call it Prince George’s Wood. I just hope he appreciates it one day.” George was born in 2013.

Third, Charles renovated a treehouse that was used by his sons Prince William and Prince Harry. When the boys were young they had fun playing in the treehouse located on the grounds of Charles’ country home, Highgrove House.

After Prince George was born King Charles ensured that the house was updated for the next generation of royal children.

Inspired by that project, Prince Charles recently opened a children’s playground in Dumfries House in Scotland which has a treehouse tower inspired by his grandchildren’s treehouse.
