How Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Ruined The Fairytale For Americans

How Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Ruined The Fairytale For the AmericansPrince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding was watched by millions around the world – even Ariana Grande made a joke about it at the time. It was an exciting moment for so many, who viewed them as Grace Kelly and Prince of Monaco for the new age.

However, they came with a lot of baggage and whining that simply turned people off their brand. An American royal commentator is now explaining how they lost their charm.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Turned Americans Off With Their Complaints

They did the Oprah tell-all, there was the Apple docuseries ‘The Me You Can’t See’ where Harry talked of being trapped and generational pain, there was the ‘Harry and Meghan’ Netflix docuseries, and if all that weren’t enough, there was the memoir ‘Spare.’

According to American writer Lee Cohen, all this and more helped to disillusion the Americans from the idea that the Sussexes were this beautiful modern fairytale. They may be in America, but they sure aren’t America’s favorite royals.

“Now, like their trajectory in Britain, Americans’ infatuation with Harry and Meghan has significantly cooled,” Cohen wrote. One of the signs?

Cohen recalled, “A few days ago saw the latest episode of bad feeling between the one-time HRHs and the USA. Prince Harry’s nomination for the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the ESPY Awards was supposed to be a respectful nod to him setting up the Invictus Games for wounded servicemen and women.”

“But the decision to hand him the gong did not land well in America, a country where gratitude for genuine service runs deep,” Cohen continued, “The award is named in honour of former NFL player Pat Tillman, who left a lucrative sports career to serve in the US military and ultimately sacrificed his life for his country. It holds a deeply symbolic value.”

When the announcement was made, many were not happy about the choice, much less Pat Tillman’s mother, who spoke up about the choice, calling him a “controversial and divisive individual” and asserting that there are “far more fitting” potential recipients.

Cohen continued, “Many Americans slammed the choice, arguing others in the veteran community were more deserving and lacked Harry’s privileges.”

In fact, the Americans were so against it a petition to deny Prince Harry the award gained 75,000 signatures.

At the end of the day, he received the award, and while some gave him a standing ovation, many remained seated as he took the stage to accept the award.
