What is it about British royal family spares that makes it seem they are destined for a life of cursedness? Think of Prince Andrew, the spare to King Charles, and Prince Harry, the spare to Prince William. Both of these most recent spares have kept current tabloids in business.
Even before them, Princess Margaret was the spare to the late Queen Elizabeth. Her life was the stuff of legend, a tragic drama that included being forbidden to marry the man she loved and a well-documented substance issue.
Elizabeth, Charles, and William have shown themselves to be caring, responsible leaders while their spares are all poster kids for dysfunction.
What About the Wales Spares?
Leave it to the Prince and Princess of Wales to break the generational curse by promoting a “first among equals” approach to child rearing.
If any two people can make a positive difference in the world it’s Wills and Kate, and here’s what to know about their parenting skills!
The couple are parents to the heir to the throne, Prince George and his sister Princess Charlotte and brother Prince Louis.
Royal expert Phil Dampier told the Sun of George: “Obviously he is the most important one.” But he said “William and Kate see George as primus inter pares—first among equals.”
Prince George Is The Alpha
He added that while George may be the future King, his siblings Charlotte and Louis may also have significant roles, especially as the ranks of working, senior royals continues to thin out.
Disgraced Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew all have been removed from the ranks of working royals.
Royal pundit Robert Hardman told Marie Claire that Charlotte and Louis will probably mirror the relationships that Princess Anne and Prince Edward have with King Charles.
They are still young–Prince Louis is 6 and Princess Charlotte is 9—but one day they will be able to help George carry out royal duties.
Prince George Has Two Spares
Harry has made a living off of being a spare part, even titling his wretched memoir, Spare. Dampier thinks that the same disgruntled fate will not befall Charlotte and Louis.
Princess Charlotte has already shown leadership qualities: “Charlotte, who of course is third in line to the throne, is already a strong character.”
According to Dampier “Kate has always been close to her siblings and she wants her children to share the same sort of bond.” For the time being the siblings all attend Lambrook School in Berkshire.
Next year Prince George turns 13 and at that time his parents have to choose his next school. While royal males usually are sent to boarding school, talk is that Kate and William could opt to keep George local in order to keep their children together.
To do so would not only be considerate, it would make sense since security for the kids would be centralized to one location.
