Jodie Turner-Smith Would Have Loved It If Meghan Markle Did Things Differently

Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith thought Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, missed an opportunity to modernize the royal family in an interview where she discussed her role as Queen Anne Boleyn in a new series.

According to her, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping down as senior working members of the royal family was not the best decision.

Jodie Turner-Smith On Why The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Leaving the Monarchy was a “Missed Opportunity”

The rising British actress, who first rose to prominence with her role as Sgt. Azima Kandie in the Last Ship, will be starring as the ill-fated second wife of King Henry VIII in an upcoming Channel 5 series. She will play the title role of the series, Anne Boleyn.

Turner-Smith recently spoke to The Telegraph on behalf of her starring role in the Anne Boleyn series and also weighed in on what she thought Meghan Markle, 39, and Prince Harry, 36, could have done before stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family.

“I think that Meghan could have been that. It was a terrible missed opportunity, the way in which it was not allowed to be something that really modernizes that institution, and to change it to something for the better. I think that’s why there’s dysfunction there,” the English actress and model, 34, said.

As for her stance on the monarchy, the mom of one made it clear that she does not consider herself a monarchist, citing the fact that the institution refuses to keep up with modern times as the cause.
“I think it’s interesting that the institution is not changing with the time, or quickly enough,” Turner-Smith stated. “We have to look at things in a modern context. And only then we will recognize that certain things are archaic, and don’t really serve us as a community, and are limiting us. I think we should keep those things in stories and move on to something else in reality.”

She also talked about how she feels to be cast as a 16th century Queen, also emphasizing how fans reacted to her casting as the titular character since both women are from different races and colors.
“Anne Boleyn is a character loved by so many and a story knew that people are attached to the way that it looks in their own imagination,” she told The Telegraph. “So, when you introduce something that is so contrary there’s going to be resistance. I think it’s to be expected.”

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry’s Exit As Senior Royals

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex officially announced their intended departure from their role as Senior Royals in January 2020, less than two years after their marriage in 2018.

They have since relocated to Montecito, California, where they currently call home with their 2-year-old son Archie and are expecting a girl to arrive sometime this summer.

A few months after their departure, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down with Oprah Winfrey and revealed some shocking details about the royal family that got the hashtag abolishthebritishroyalfamily trending across the world.

These days, the former senior royals are keeping busy with their various engagements, namely a mental health series that Prince Harry is executive producing with Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle’s debut children’s book set to be released soon.
