The Duchess of Sussex wants the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson to become her ally this year. And Meghan Markle hopes that Fergie will stand up for her against both Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla.

Because of Meghan’s desire to reconcile with the royal family, she plans to turn to Sarah Ferguson to forge the connection, per MSN.

And Meghan’s choice of the Duchess of York seems understandable. Because in the wake of her split from Prince Andrew, Sarah has succeeded in holding onto her relationship with the royal family.

For instance, the Duchess of York recently participated in the royal Christmas walk with her ex Prince Andrew.

As a result, Meghan “hopes Sarah can be an ally who’ll stand up for her against the likes of Camilla and Kate,” said a source. But the Duchess of Sussex also believes that she and hubby Prince Harry will “make it to Britain for peace talks with Charles. Sarah has certainly navigated some difficult waters over the years,” noted the insider about the benefits for Meghan of teaming up with the Duchess of York. “But she’s managed to charm her way back into Charles’ good books. Meghan’s desperate to do the same.”

Classy Kate Contrasts With Brassy Meghan

However, in terms of boosting public opinion of her, Meghan will need more than Sarah Ferguson’s support. And polls repeatedly show Kate Middleton soaring even as Meghan falls in the popularity rankings.

But one clear reason comes in the perception of Kate. Viewed as a class act, the Princess of Wales earned praise from uncle Gary Goldsmith as “self-sufficient, resourceful and extremely capable. She comes from a family of doers and fixers … Carole [Middleton, her mother] has taught her girls to deal with problems with calm capability, not histrionics,” per the Guardian.

And Kate’s friendly resilience that combines with a quiet desire for privacy makes her seem authentic. A recent poll showed that the Princess of Wales has become the second most popular living royal after Princess Anne. And the contrast between Kate and Meghan also seems clear in how the Princess of Wales handled her current medical problems.

While Kate sought privacy in a calm, under-stated announcement about her surgery, hospitalization and recovery period, some on social media feel that Meghan likely would have, in the words of one critic, “milked the situation for all the publicity that she could get. She’d have probably played victim and sent out daily press release updates!”
