Is there really anything wrong with the names August and Ernest? Well, it depends on who you ask. Even though Princess Beatrice and her husband Jack Brooksbank have used both names for their two sons, there are some royal experts that say if Kate Middelton were to name her kids Augie or Ernie, she would have been heavily criticized. According to a new report, one expert says that “ardent” royallists would have criticized the Prince and Princess of Wales, should they have chosen a name like Augie or Ernest for their children.

As many fans know by now, Princess Eugenie just gave birth to her second son, Ernest. Her older son’s name is August. William and Kate’s two sons are named Prince George and Prince Louis. They also have a daughter, Princess Charlotte.

Pauline Maclaran, author of the 2015 book Royal Fever, put it this way, “They would have been criticized by ardent royalists I think who would have seen this as a departure from royal tradition. However, this departure might equally well have been welcomed by a younger generation, many of whom feel the monarchy is an outdated institution.”

Just this week, Buckingham Palace released a statement that said, “Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Ernest was born on Tuesday, 30th May, and weighed 7lbs 1oz.”

What’s more, Eugenie shared a few new photos of her newborn son and new big brother August on her Instagram account.

She captioned her post with, “Jack and I wanted to share the news that we had our little boy, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. He is named after his great great great Grandfather George, his Grandpa George and my Grandpa Ronald,” while also adding, “Augie is loving being a big brother already.”

So far the royal mother and the newest addition to her family are doing just fine.
